Our founding partner, Philip G. Villaume, started our firm in 1979 under the name of Philip G. Villaume & Associates. He has been practicing law in Minnesota ever since then and has been admitted to practice in Wisconsin since 1984. Mr. Villaume has published four books — including the nationally renowned Teachers at Risk: Crisis in the Classroom — and lectures around the country at seminars and workshops about topics including ethics, professionalism, and criminal law and procedure. In 1989 and 1990, he argued the precedent-setting case of State v. Hershberger, regarding religious freedom for the Amish community. Mr. Schiek has been practicing law for eight years and became a partner at our firm in 2003. He is widely recognized for the quality of his legal briefs, especially in appellate cases. Dean Barkley is Of Counsel to Villaume & Schiek, and is a former U.S. Senator for the State of Minnesota. Mr. Barkley has been practicing law for over 30 years.

Biography

Dean Barkley graduated from the University of Minnesota Law School in June of 1976.He was admitted to the Minnesota Bar in September of 1976 and was certified to practice before the Federal Bench in October of 1976. Mr. Barkley has practiced law in Wright County and Hennepin County for over 30 years.16 years ago he became involved in politics and co-founded the Independence Party of Minnesota.In 1998 he recruited Jesse Ventura to run for Governor for the State of Minnesota and served as the Chairman of his campaign.He served as the Director of Strategic and Long Range Planning for four years under the Ventura Administration.In November of 2001, Governor Ventura appointed Dean Barkley to the United States Senate to serve the remaining term of the late Senator Wellston.U.S. Senate, Senator, 2002 - 2003 State of Minnesota, Director of Minnesota Planning Department, 1999 - 2002
